England suffer humiliating Euro 2016 exit to Iceland
Roy Hodgson resigns after shock defeat
England have been dumped out of Euro 2016 in humiliating fashion after a shock 2-1 defeat to minnows Iceland in the last 16.
Wayne Rooney had given Roy Hodgson's side a perfect start by scoring from the penalty spot after just four minutes at the Allianz Riviera in Nice.
But Iceland hit back with two goals in 12 minutes to turn the game on its head.
Hodgson, who has been in charge of England since 2012, has now resigned following the defeat.
In a statement, he said: "I am very disappointed with the result and take full responsibility for our exit."
"I would like to thank the players for their hard work and commitment during my time as manager and wish them well in the future."
The defeat is a huge disappointment for England, who were one of the favourites to win the tournament.
It is also a major blow to Hodgson, who has been under pressure for some time.
The FA will now begin the search for a new manager, with Gareth Southgate the favourite to take over.
