Early Life and Military Career
Binyamin "Benny" Gantz was born on June 9, 1959, in Kfar Ahim, Israel. He joined the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in 1977, where he served as a paratrooper and later as a commander in various units.
Military Accomplishments
Gantz had a distinguished military career, serving in numerous wars and conflicts. He played a key role in the 1982 Lebanon War, leading a special forces unit that rescued hostages from a hijacked bus. He also served as commander of the IDF Southern Command and Chief of Staff from 2011 to 2015.
Political Career
After retiring from the IDF, Gantz entered politics. In 2019, he formed the Blue and White party and ran for Prime Minister against Benjamin Netanyahu. Although he failed to win, Gantz served as Defense Minister in a unity government with Netanyahu from 2020 to 2021.
